Good to know

The house

A three-storey nalukettu with 74 rooms built around open courtyards, a grand gatehouse, two outhouses, a large family pond with a bathhouse, and a family temple with shrines to Shiva, Krishna and Ayyappan.

It was designed by Krishnan Thampuran, known as Shilpi Thampuran, who studied architecture in Chennai. Notice the slender, Western-style columns around the portico and the heavily carved wooden beams, doors and windows.

The first film shot here was Theertham in 1987. Since then the mana has appeared in more than 100 films, including
Devasuram, Aaram Thampuran, Narasimham, Rappakal and Bramayugam.

The mana is privately owned and run by a family trust. The inner shrine area is restricted. Follow staff
instructions and ask before taking photos inside.
